Thirty-five years of Michael Yamaoka’s breathtaking color photographs are collected in this lavishly produced coffee table book, featuring all the production values of the world of traditional fine art book publishing. The photographs themselves—all personal works—encompass the years from Mr. Yamaoka’s student days in California, through his years as an advertising photographer with the high-powered Madison Avenue agency BBD&O, to the opening his own New York studio; and also span the globe.
The book was created as a tribute to his son, Kenneth Kagetaka, who was killed in a car accident— the event that drove Mr. Yamaoka to reevaluate his life, and redirect his creative efforts to fine art photography.
A special gold seal commemorates the 20th anniversary of the publishing of the book, and will grace the cover. The book contains a preface by Mr. Yamaoka, an introduction written by Samuel Antupit, the late VP-Creative Director, of Abrams books, and essays by among others, Janet Adams Strong, the biographer of I. M. Pei.
